Huang Lisha of China Claims Her Third Consecutive 100m T53 Gold Medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics

Current world record holder, Huang Lisha of China, captured her third consecutive Paralympic 100 meter T53 title at the ongoing 2016 Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil after beating her compatriot Zhou Hongzhuan in the final round on Thursday.

According to Xinhua, Huang, 27, crossed the finish line in 16.28 seconds, 23 hundredths of a second faster than her teammate Zhou. Five-time IPC Athletics World Championship gold medalist Angela Ballard of Australia claimed bronze with a time of 16.59.

With the victory, Huang claimed her sixth Paralympic Game gold medal in the T53 wheelchair sprint events.

"I feel proud and really happy to have this gold and achieve this glory for my country," said Huang.

The Chinese Paralympian athlete also emphasized on the hard work and effort that her team mate gave during their training time and expressed gratitude to their coaches and as well as for their motherland.

"Zhou and I spent more than 10 years training together and to reach today's level our country spent a lot of time, money and attention on us. Also, our coaches dedicated a lot of time to us," she said.

"Our country really supports us and I'll see what happens in the future. If I continue training I might still improve and get a new record." She added.

Meanwhile, Li Liqing of China won the women's judo -48kg title at the Rio Paralympics by beating the defending champion Carmen Brussig of Germany by an ippon also on Thursday. It was the 23-year-old Chinese Judo expert's first Paralympic Games gold medal, according to China Daily.
