Australia's Neil Robertson has suffered an early first-round elimination at the ongoing 2016 Shanghai Masters, but England's Judd Trump made his way to the next round of the competition on Wednesday.

Robertson, 34, failed to find his touch against the 36-year-old wildcard Ryan Day during their match in the opening round of the Shanghai-based snooker competition. Day won three-straight frames in a row to take a commanding 4-1 advantage before walking away with a 5-2 winner, according to Sporting Life.

"I felt alright at the start, I could see Neil was struggling a bit and I began to struggle as well," said Day. "It's just important to get through games like that really, you aren't going to play well all of the time."

Meanwhile, Trump easily defeated fellow English player Ben Woollaston with a clean sweep 5-0 victory. Trump. 27, got off to a good start and was rarely troubled during the entire match. He will now be facing No. 21 Michael White in the round of last 16.

In the other matches of the day, Stuart Bingham secured a comfortable 5-1 triumph against Jamie Jones. Bingham made impressive back-to-back centuries of 112 and 124 respectively to easily progress to the next round of the tournament.

Also, Allister Carter defeated Kurt Maflin of Norway 5-1. Carter will be facing John Higgins in the next level of the competition.

China's Mei Xi Wen made his home fans delighted as he rallied from 2-0 down to stage an outstanding 5-3 come-from-behind upset over Mark Williams.
