India and China on Tuesday held a key counter-terror dialogue in Beijing. This is the first time that both Asian countries have initiated a dialogue on the sensitive issue of terror, which comes amid India's rising concern over Pakistan's continued support for terror groups in the aftermath of the recent Uri attack.

The meeting was chaired by India's R N Ravi, Chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee; and Wang Yongquing, Secretary General of Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of China.

Both officials held "in-depth discussions on enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism and security and on measures to jointly deal with security threats and reached important consensus in this regard," the Indian Embassy said in a statement.

The counter-terror dialogue comes after India's Home Minister Rajnath Singh's recent visit to China. Singh met China's top counter-terror Czar Meng Jianzhu during his visit. Both officials reportedly exchanged information on respective policies, systems, and legislation to deal with terrorism.

Terrorism is a common concern for both India and China. While India's terror concern mostly emanates from disputed region of Kashmir, China is a facing similar challenge in its far eastern province of Xinjiang.

Kashmir is a complicated issue with regards to China, as its close ally Pakistan is a party to the dispute. India accuses Islamabad of stroking insurgency in the region. New Delhi alleges that the recent Uri attack, which killed 18 Indian soldiers, was carried out by a Pakistan-based terrorist organization.
