Chinese multinational technology company Lenovo said it is considering India as a potential center for manufacturing its laptops.

"At Pondicherry plant, where we are already manufacturing desktops, has the capacity and flexibility to manufacture laptops. The company will have to take a call when to do it," Dinesh Nair, director of Lenovo India Consumer Business, said, adding that company is committed to take part of the country's 'Make in India' initiative.

He also noted that making laptops in India would give more flexibility since at least two months are needed to ship products from China, Gadgets 360 noted.

Meanwhile, Lenovo is exerting all of its efforts to grab the top spot in India's PC market over the next few years. In terms of market shares in India, the Chinese smartphone maker currently ranks third with 16.1 percent, trailing behind HP and Dell, which account for 28.4 percent and 22.2 percent, respectively.

"Going ahead, we want to be the number one and that would mean we grab share from others," Rajesh Thadani, Lenovo India Consumer Business head, said, adding that Lenovo had grown from merely 7 to 8 percent in 2010 to 16 percent this year.

As part of its strategy, Lenovo revamped its entire range of portfolio, shifting its target on gamers and young professionals.  It is also boosting its retail presence and has introduced a whole new slate of products into the market.

Not only that, Lenovo also launched a new scheme for its clients giving them up to three years of accidental damage protection and three years of additional warranty without added cost when purchasing select models, Money Control noted. Furthermore, all laptops are already equipped with McAfee Live Safe Suite.

Prices for the new lineup that includes notebooks, 2-in-1s, and a gaming laptop range between $263 and $1,925.
