English rock band The Rolling Stones recently announced the release of their first studio album since 2005.

Called "Blue and Lonesome," the new collection from the band features blues covers, which were recorded over a span of just three days earlier this year, according to The Rolling Stones. It is packed with new versions of the songs originally performed by Howlin' Wolf and Jimmy Reed.

According to BBC, rock legend Eric Clapton was also featured on the album.

The 71-year-old rockstar was able to join The Rolling Stones during some of their recording sessions as he himself was also doing his own album in a studio next door.

Rumors of The Rolling Stones working on a new album began circulating when a short clip showing the band playing a blues piece in a studio surfaced online.

Moreover, The Rolling Stones' long-time producer Don Was confirmed to a French media outfit that the band had already recorded an album consisting of covers of classic Chicago blues music.

The last time the band had a project was when they launched "A Bigger Bang" 11 years ago. Amid this scenario, though, it can be noted that the group has never faded from the limelight, as its members have constantly toured around the world.

The Rolling Stones is slated to join other major acts in the music world for a three-day outdoor festival Desert Trip, where Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts will be joining the likes of Roger Waters, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Who, and Paul McCartney.
