Oculus confirmed that it is collaborating with AMD and CyberPowerPC in a project that will produce VR-ready PCs for a significantly lower price tag.

Earlier this year, Oculus launched the first batch of VR-ready PCs from various manufacturers including Dell, Asus, and Alienware.

VR-ready PCs from Asus, Alienware and Dell all carry a somewhat hefty price tag, with the entry-level model being sold at $949. However, with AMD and CyberPowerPC around, Oculus is optimistic about creating a VR-ready PC for less than $500.

The secret behind this massive price drop is Oculus' new technology called asynchronous spacewarp which is a variation of asynchronous timewarp. What this new technology does is compare the last rendered frame to detect motion, and then use that information to extrapolate the position of the next frame.

Asynchronous spacewarp allows the Oculus Rift to render a consistent 45 frames per second refresh rate while re-projecting frames to display scenes at 90 frames per second, according to PC Gamer.

Using this technology, the Rift can render a virtual reality scene without putting too much stress on the PC's hardware.

Furthermore, the new technology will allow Oculus to trim down the minimum requirements of a PC to properly run the Rift. The new minimum system requirements include an Nvidia 960 graphics card, Intel Core i3-6100 or an AMD FX4350, at least 8GB of memory, HDMI 1.3 video output, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0, and Windows 8 or newer operating system.

Oculus believes that by lowering the system requirements to run the Rift virtual reality headset, the company could bring VR gaming to a much broader audience, and not be concentrated only among the enthusiasts.
