Typhoon Haima hit coastal China, nearly 110km east of Hong Kong. It led to the cancellation of over 700 flights in Hong Kong.

In China, typhoon brought about sudden downpours in at least five counties. However, over the course of its travel to north, the typhoon lost some of its strength.

According to Shanwei disaster relief office, Haima damaged 21 dam gates, 179 water facilities and 59 dike ruptures.

The region is expected to experience two more days of rainfall in several areas.

The provincial disaster relief office said the water level in most of the dams in the province were already marked dangerous. Some of the areas were also evacuated.

This is already the 22nd typhoon to hit the country this year.

Super Typhoon Haima caused havoc in the Philippines earlier this week, as it unleashed winds of up to 220kms per hour even prior to its landfall. Haima showed the strength of Category 4 hurricane, which  caused substantial infrastructure and agricultural damage.

In Hong Kong, the typhoon led to the shutdown of both inbound and outbound train and air services. All the schools and offices were closed as well. Trading on the stock market was suspended whereas commuter ferry services were called off after the storm signal was raised.
