Recent football transfer rumors that have emerged hinted that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is targeting Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas in January.

In the nine games in the Premier League so far this season, the Spanish footballer was only utilized four times and all coming from the bench.

As a result, Fabregas has yet to score a goal in the English top flight. His two goals this season was from a brace during a 4-2 EFL Cup victory over Leicester City last month. The Spaniard has only appeared twice so far for Conte in this year's EFL competitions.

Caught Offside indicated in its new set of football transfer rumors that Pep Guardiola is keen on rescuing his former Barcelona player from the rut that he is in at Chelsea when the transfer window re-opens three months from now.

Guardiola is said to be "concerned over a lack of creativity" at City and he believes that Fabregas is one of the solutions to the current problems of his squad.

After being on top of the Premier League during the first six rounds of competitions, the Citizens is now winless in its last three matches primarily because of lack of movement in the midfield, according to some analysts.

It would be the second time Guardiola snags Fabregas out of his current team should the former Barça mentor successfully pry the player away from Chelsea.

In the summer of 2011, Guardiola bought Fabregas from Arsenal to Barcelona for a transfer fee of $37 million when he was still in charge of the Catalan giants.

The Daily Star reported that Fabregas could cost $24.5 million (£20 million) this time around, but the Etihad officials are reportedly prepared to pay the price for Guardiola's target.

Fabregas is also set to be offered a wage increase should he decide to join City as the club is ready to give him a weekly salary of $196,000 (£160,000), which is a huge improvement from his current wage with the Blues.
