China's Alipay teams up with First Data to expand its mobile payment app service into the United States.

Under the partnership, retailers that offer Alipay will use First Data's Clover Mini point-of-sale solution to accept Alipay. The newest mode of payment will roll out in November at select retail outlets in California and New York, the News on 6 reported.

"First Data is honored to partner with Alipay to make this popular payment option available to Chinese consumers traveling in the U.S.," Frank Bisignano, First Data's Chairman and CEO, said. He further added that the latest move shows First Data's leadership not only in helping its clients' businesses grow but also ensure safe and secure payments for its consumers.

"Partnering with First Data will help more merchants extend reliable payment services to Chinese tourists," Douglas Feagin, Senior Vice President of Ant Financial and Head of Alipay International, said, adding that the company wants to give Chinese tourists the "taste of home" even when travelling overseas.

Meanwhile, Alipay also announced a deal with Verifone on Monday, which aims to target top-tier merchants in the retail, luxury goods, health supplement, and department stores, Fortune reported. Verifone supplies over 29 million payment devices and terminals across the world.

The initiative is part of Alipay's ambition to become a global payments provider over the next decade, with more than half (60%) of its transaction volume coming overseas.

"We are targeting 2 billion users in the next 10 years, Sabrina Peng, president of Alipay International, was quoted saying during her recent interview.
