India's Pusarla Venkata "PV" Sindhu advances to the opening round of the ongoing BWF 2016 French Open after successfully beating Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong, China on Wednesday, with a hard-fought 21-9, 29-27 triumph at the Stade Pierre De Coubertin in Paris, France.

The 2016 Rio Olympic Games women's singles silver medalist took the first set in a much easier fashion. However, Sindhu had to work extra harder in the second game as the 29-year-old Chinese put on a fight and tried to force a decider, but fell short as the tournament's sixth-seeded player prevailed and wrapped up the victory in 45 grueling minutes.

The 21-year-old Indian badminton star, who currently sits on the eighth spot of the latest BWF world ranking result, will be facing the 11th-ranked He Bingjiao of China in the second round of the US$300,000 international badminton competition.

The 19-year-old He advances to the next stage of the event after comfortably defeating No. 49 Mette Poulsen in two straight sets 21-9, 21-19 that lasted for 36 minutes.

The upcoming match between the two elite players will be their sixth meeting.

The Chinese youngster, who recently claimed the 2016 Japan Open in Tokyo last September, enjoyed the upper hand with a 3-2 lead in their head-to-head matchup record, basing from the official website of the BWF.

He defeated Sindhu in last year's edition of the Yonex Sunrise Indonesian Masters before prevailing over the native of Hyderabad in March at the Swiss Open and OUE Singapore Open last April.

Sindhu, on the other hand, scored her first victory against He at the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open last April of this year and recently posted her second win over the Chinese shuttler at the Yonex Denmark Open last week.

Meanwhile, fourth seed Tian Houwei of China advances to the second round of the tournament following a 21-13, 17-21, 21-17 win over Indonesia's Ihsan Maul Mustofa.
