After being ruled out for the rest of the 2015-16 season with a left knee injury and a torn labrum in his left shoulder, three-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis kicked off the league's 71st season with a bang.

The New Orleans Pelicans superstar posted an awesome 50 points, 16 rebounds, seven steals, five assists and four blocked shots on Wednesday night in a 107-102 regular-season opener loss to the hands of the visiting Denver Nuggets in Louisiana.

According to The New York Times, the remarkable game production of the 23-year-old native of Chicago, Illinois helped the Smoothie King Center-homed basketball club to cut a 14-point deficit during the second-quarter of the game down to just a basket in the waning minutes of the match. However, Davis simply did not have enough help.

His teammates went on a combined 21 of 58 from the field with guards Tim Frazier and E'Twaun Moore as the only other Pelicans to score in double figures. Frazier had 15 points while Moore finished the night with 10 markers.

Davis, who was the league's No. 1 draft pick in 2012, became the fourth NBA player in its history to nail in 50 points in a season-opener game. It was his second career highest scoring output after scoring 59 points in a win against the Detroit Pistons on February of the last season.

The 2014 and 2015 NBA blocks leader was just one blocked shot short of his first five-by-five and joined the annals of the league with the likes of Michael Jordan, Elgin Baylor and Wilt Chamberlain with his latest outstanding game performance.

Davis is averaging 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.0 blocked shots, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals in the 61 official games he played during the league's last regular season. He is the Pelican's all-time leader in career point/rebound double-doubles, according to the official website of the NBA.
