World No. 8 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia has advanced to the championship round of the ongoing 2016 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore after successfully outlasting Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in their semifinals match on Saturday in Kallang, Singapore.

After dropping the opening set of the match, the 27-year-old native of Bratislava, Slovakia ended Kuznetsova's campaign and reached the finals of the WTA' season-ending tournament in her first-ever appearance of the competition with a hard-earned 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 triumph.

In the second game, Cibulkova managed to force a decider following a dismal performance during the opening set and rode on to the momentum to steal the match that lasted for two hours and 27 minutes.

"At the end I was lying on the court and now I'm so excited," the 27-year-old Cibulkova said after the match, according to WTA's official website. "It's my first time here playing Finals and for me it's one of my dreams come true - it's just incredible."

The victory marked the sixth win of Cibulkova in nine meetings against the 31-year-old Russian tennis ace. It was also the Slovakian's sixth straight triumph over Kuznetsova since 2010.

According to Tennis.com, Cibulkova, who had only won one of her three round robin matches of the elite eight-player event, will now face the ruling WTA's world No.1 Angelique Kerber of Germany for the title. Kerber secured her place in the championship round following a convincing 6-2, 6-1 straight-sets victory over tourney's defending titleholder Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

The upcoming final round clash between the two top caliber tennis competitors will be their 10th match.

Kerber currently sits on the front seat with a 5-4 advantage after a very recent 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-3 win over Cibulkova in the round robin stage of the competition, the only match of the week where the tournament's top seed lost a set.
