Ford Motor Reports Record October Sales in China

Ford Motor Co. and its joint ventures achieved a record October sales of 107,618 vehicles, up 13.6 percent year on year.

"We had a strong October and we are headed for our best year ever for sales in China," Peter Fleet, vice president of Marketing, Sales and Service, Asia Pacific, said. "We are seeing the benefits of a much more exciting lineup and an ever stronger focus on the wants and needs of Chinese customers."

Furthermore, Ford, Changhan Ford Automobile, and Jiangling Motor Corporation posted a year-to-date sale of 966,000 units, up 10 percent, the Business Wire reported.

Changhan Ford Automobile monthly sales also totaled to 82,368 vehicles, up 10 percent year over year. The Ford's passenger car joint venture sold 745,650 units year-to-date, up 14 percent compared with that of in 2015, the RTT News noted.

Meanwhile, Jiangling Motor Corporation also reported a strong October with a total sale of 23,949 vehicles, up 29 percent year on year. Ford's commercial vehicle investment successfully reached the 200,000 milestone on its year-to-date sales, up 3 percent, according to the Detroit News.

On the other hand, its October sales were also helped by Mustang with a positive sale increase of 60 percent, Ford Edge with 93 percent, and Ford Explorer with 30 percent compared with the same time last year.

In a related news, Ford's Lincoln revealed it is currently studying the feasibility of locally producing cars in China after the brand's sales surge in the country.

The move aims to spare its consumers from import tariffs that increase the cars' prices. However, the company noted that it is still considering such decision and does not want to rush things.

Through October, Ford and its joint ventures sold a total of 966,181 units in China, up 9.9 percent.
