There are rumors that the New Orleans Pelicans are considering firing head coach Alvin Gentry as the team has won only one in ten games so far this season.

The Pelicans have lost eight-straight games since the start of the season before pulling off an 112-106 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday last week. The team was again defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers, 126-99, on Saturday at their home court of Smoothie King Center to fall to the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 1-9 record.

With the club's current struggles, Inquisitr reported that New Orleans is considering to "make a change," particularly to their coaching staff. Gentry could reportedly be "fired in a matter of days" as the team searches for a potential replacement for the 62-year-old former Golden State Warriors assistant.

Gentry, who signed a signed a four-year, $13.75 million deal with the Pelicans while he was still with the Warriors before the 2015 NBA Finals, has not met expectations during his time in New Orleans.

He led the team to a dismal 30-52 record last season, which was fourth from the last in the West with only the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, and Lakers having worse records.

Sportige indicated that Gentry could be the "first coach fired this NBA season" as the Pelicans "envisioned something completely different" than their present status when they snatched away the coach from Golden State last year.

New Orleans fired Monty Williams, who had led the team to a playoff appearance during Anthony Davis' third year in the league, before hiring Gentry in hopes that the team could do better in the postseason.

However, with the way things are going early in the new season, it looks like the Pelicans are heading to another playoff-less year.

An injury to Davis last season made the team come up short in their postseason aspirations. This year, the three-time All-Star is healthy and has started the season strongly with averages of 31.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game, but still, New Orleans is not where they want to be in terms of winning games.
