Huawei has confirmed that the company will no longer be part of Google’s Pixel smartphone manufacturing.

The confirmation of the news came from Huawei’s VP of the Consumer Business Group Colin Giles. Google and Huawei commened their smartphone partnership with the Nexus 6P, and tech analysts believed that this partnership will continue for several years. So, Google asked the Chinese tech firm to manufacture the Pixel phones.

However, it ended unexpectedly with the Nexus 6P as Google has the firm desire to have no other branding on the devices besides its own or without the direct involvement of an OEM partner, Huawei backed out from the deal, according to Fortune.

Since Google is firm about their decision, it will not work with Huawei’s goal, which was to gain more market share in the U.S, and the Taiwan-based tech giant had no desire to build phones for anyone else without getting something out of the partnership. Years ago, Huawei decided it would not be a contract shop for other companies seeking to manufacture handsets.

After the relationship of the companies ended, Google picked HTC in replacement of Huawei. This new partnership may help HTC to gain once more favorable revenue after several years of disappointing sales. The Taoyuan, Taiwan-based mobile phone maker accepted the deal of manufacturing the Pixel and Pixel XL in exchange of Google’s money.

Both Pixel and Pixel XL do not contain HTC branding and software anywhere on the devices except on the non-removable battery, but they display the Google logo instead.

On the other hand, Huawei assures that it is still a partner with Google and they are still open for future projects with the two working together. In fact, the search engine giant is currently developing a tablet with Huawei that will likely to preview Google’s new OS called Andromeda, 9to5Google reported.
