The internet users started reporting last week that the term "Kim Fatty the Third" elicited no response on Chinese Twitter version Weibo and popular search engine Baidu. This clearly suggests that the term has been censored by internet regulators.

Elaborating on the ban, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said that Beijing "does not approve of insulting or ridiculing language to address any country's leader."

Media reports, however, indicate that hordes of internet users have taken to Weibo to suggest several alternative terms that sounds almost similar to "Kim Fatty the Third."

The nickname "Kim Fatty the Third," popular especially among the country's youth, pokes fun at Kim's fat size and his status as a third generation leader of the Kim family.

In September, officials blocked another popular nickname that poked fun at the weight of Kim, his father, and grandfather. The ban was carried out immediately after North Korea carried out its latest nuclear test.

Although China is North Korea's solo ally in the world, the bilateral relationship off late has come under strain due to Pyongyang's controversial missile program. The tension, however, has not stopped the trade relation between the two communist countries.

The trade relation is immensely important for Pyongyang's economic survival, as China is its largest trading partner.
