Backup forward Quincy Acy was waived by the Dallas Mavericks on Friday after playing only six games with the squad this season. However, there are rumors that the Mavs are thinking about bringing him back soon depending on the team's performance moving forward.

Acy, 26, was acquired by the Mavs in July during free-agency, signing him to a one-year veteran's minimum deal. He was an NBA journeyman who had played for the Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings, and New York Knicks throughout his so far four-year professional career.

Last season, Acy averaged 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in only 14.8 minutes per game playing in 59 games for the Kings. He averaged career-highs of 5.9 points and 4.4 boards in 18.9 minutes a night with the Knicks during the previous season.

According to ESPN, Mavs owner Mark Cuban admitted that the team could bring back Acy soon and that the only reason why he was waived was because Dallas needs another point guard with the current injuries to their players at the said position.

"Horrible," said Cuban with regard to what he felt when the team decided to let go of Acy, as per the Dallas Morning News.

"We tried to get a medical exception, but we didn't have enough guys injured," Cuban said. "He (Acy) is the best. I told him I've paid guys twice and three times in a season before, so be ready. I was heartbroken. We needed point guards. It was just a numbers game."

Undrafted free agent point guard Jonathan Gibson, who suited up in China last year, replaced Acy in Dallas' roster also on Friday.

"We needed another playmaker, as simple as that," said head coach Rick Carlisle. "Injuries have made it tough. It was very difficult having to let Acy go. He's a warrior and exactly the kind of guy we want in our culture."

Dallas' top three options at point guard, namely, Deron Williams, JJ Barea, and Devin Harris, are all currently out with separate injuries. Carlisle has been recently utilizing Seth Curry as the starter with Gibson as the backup.
