Will Skype be Dominated by Viber?

Viber was once just a smart phones app but it's gone farther by recently launching a desktop version.

Desktop Viber basically offers the same features as Skype. But there's a hitch to Viber's desktop version. Viber users still need the smartphone version of the app to connect to the PC version.

Research comparing the two has come out in favor of Skype.

First to be compared were price and registration. For Viber, one needs to register his phone number to get a code that will activate both the smartphone app and the PC version. Viber's PC version is free.

Skype's also free but only when calling other Skype users. One has to buy Skype credit to call mobile and landline numbers. The price varies since it depends on the location.

Next are video calls. Viber users still need to tweak a couple of setting to activate video call via smartphones. This function is available in the PC version.

Skype has been offering video calls ever since they launched. Research says Skype has a wider install base and more functionality.

Also, Skype has a lot of users that say they're satisfied with the product.

Another feature taken into consideration was call quality. Viber for the PC often has poor audio quality since it's still in its beta phase. Skype offers excellent audio quality since it's undergone several optimizations.

Compatibility was the next feature examined. Although Viber may be used in PCs and smartphones, Skype has already established compatibility with PCs, Macs, smartphones, tables, PlayStations and TVs.
