Former two-weight boxing world titleholder Paulie Malignaggi told Conor McGregor to stick to MMA and called out the Irish professional mixed martial arts fighter to a match in the boxing ring against him.

"At first I was telling Conor to stay in his lane and I was thinking you are going to embarrass yourself, but if you are really going to disrespect the sport of boxing like that then I would like to be the one to teach you that lesson." The Magic Man said in a published report by the ESPN.

The 36-year-old Malignaggi, who held the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior welterweight crown from 2007 to 2008 and the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title from 2012 to 2013, currently owns a professional boxing record of 36 wins, seven losses with his seven victories coming by a way of technical knockouts.

The American pro boxer was on a three-fight winning streak. Malignaggi most recently defeated the 35-year-old New Yorker Gabriel Bracero in a non-title fight last July of this year by a unanimous decision at the Barclays Center.

He outpointed the Italian Antonio Moscatiello and Laszlo Fazekas of Hungary in December and September of 2015, respectively. Malignaggi suffered his seventh career loss in the hands of Danny Garcia in a ninth-round technical knockout last August 2015.

McGregor, who recently got his professional boxing license in California, has been very vocal in challenging the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. to a fight. He claimed that he is the one who is fitted to hand the highest-paid athlete in the planet his first defeat.

Basing from the report of the WBN, Malignaggi is questioning the boxing ability of the UFC star and daring McGregor to prove himself.

"I question whether he can, I highly question it. I think I have enough boxing ability to really test him and beat him. He's got to at least prove he has what it takes to beat an ex-world champion." The Bensonhurst, Brooklyn native said.

"I mean, if he can't beat me then he certainly doesn't deserve Floyd Mayweather!" Malignaggi added.
