South Korean tech giant Samsung announced it is negotating with LG Chem to be one of the company's new battery suppliers, after investigation found that explosions that led to the largest recall in the smartphone history were caused by faulty batteries.

LG Chem is LG's battery manufacturing division. The company is known for supplying battery packs for a number of smartphone and tablet manufacturers including its own parent company and other popular units like Apple iPhones and iPad devices, according to Android Headlines.

LG and Samsung are yet to officially confirm the new partnership. However, several South Korean news outlet have reported that the negotiations are now on its final phase, and if everything is agreed upon, LG batteries will be powering Samsung devices that will hit the market in the second half of 2017, according to Reuters.

If this new deal will push through, Samsung will most likely leave its current Chinese battery provider due to the Galaxy Note 7 issues that caused the recall of nearly 2.5 million units in December. Samsung's internal SDI brand was the original provider of battery packs for the Galaxy Note 7 device.

Samsung was forced to pull all of its Galaxy Note 7 devices on its store, as well as stop manufacturing the device altogether after reports that replacement batteries provided by Chinese manufacturer Amperex Technology were also prone to fire and explosion.
