NBA Rumors: Rajon Rondo Heading to the Oklahoma City Thunder?

Rumors have been circulating multiple media outlets and social media about a potential trade involving Rajon Rondo going to the Oklahoma City Thunder. But like most rumors involving Rondo, it's best to take them with a grain of salt.

The rumors began circulating following a recent Q&A that was done between SBNation's CelticsBlog and Sporting News writer Sean Deveney.

When asked which team out there might be in the Rondo market, Deveney replied, "The Thunder could be one to watch. They have pieces to shed in a sign-and-trade, and a Russell Westbrook-Rondo backcourt would be fascinating."

This has led to many media outlets, including Dime Magazine, to speculate what exactly the Thunder would need to give up in order to receive Rondo. The general consensus seems to be Kendrick Perkins, Reggie Jackson and two future first-round draft picks.

While many Celtics fans would most likely prefer a Rajon Rondo for Russell Westbrook swap, Rondo's trade value is currently low due to his recent ACL injury. Not to mention, that trade wouldn't make much sense for OKC considering one of their issues in the playoffs was in need of more scoring.

A Rondo-Westbrook backcourt would be very dangerous however. Both players are elite defenders at their position, even though they sometimes gamble in the passing lanes. Westbrook would slide to the SG position, while the best facilitator in the league Rondo sets him and Kevin Durant up with wide-open looks to the basket.

Assuming the trade rumor is indeed in the works, it's still very unlikely Celtics' President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge pulls the trigger on that deal.

Reggie Jackson would be a nice young pick-up, but Perkins has already been in the league for 11 years and has been on a steady decline ever since he was originally traded from Boston for Jeff Green in 2011.

OKC's Reggie Jackson and the young up-and-comer Steven Adams would be much more enticing to Danny Ainge, but as mentioned earlier, take this trade rumor with a grain of salt. Everything is still speculation at this point.
