English Premier League club Liverpool FC is reportedly set to acquire Bayer Leverkusen's Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez at the end of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen, currently in the ninth spot of the Bundesliga table, is reportedly planning to sell Hernandez after the Mexican striker was not able to repeat his goal-scoring production from last season, according to Sports Illustrated.

Hernandez, 28, netted 26 goals in 40 games in all competitions for the German club last term. He has only managed to score seven in 23 appearances so far this season. He has not scored a goal since Oct. 1 and has only scored five in 15 German top flight games.

Bayer is said to be prepared to deal him in the ongoing winter transfer window but no team has yet to place a bid on the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star. Thus, a move in the summer is more likely with Liverpool waiting to snag him.

Meanwhile, the Independent reported that Hernandez is also keen on moving out of North Rhine-Westphalia as he has an apparent "falling out with teammates" in Leverkusen.

Hernandez, who only has one year left in his contract with Bayer, reportedly has a €25 million ($26.3 million) release cause and the German side is willing to "immediately" sell him if any club offers them the said amount, according to the report.

Aside from the Reds, Premier league club Chelsea is also said to be interested in signing the 5-foot-9 Guadalajara, Mexico native.

However, latest reports have emerged that Hernandez had denied the rumors, saying that he is "happy to stay in the Bundesliga" and will be looking to lead Bayer to a "top-four finish in 2016-2017".

"Why would I like to stay in the Bundesliga? Because I feel good and I'm happy. I've learned a lot in the Bundesliga, as a player and as a man," said Hernandez. "I like playing in the Champions League, and luckily Bayer have been involved in the last few years. We hope we can achieve that goal again in the second half of the season."
