A Chinese official in north China's Hebei province has been dismissed for "posting wrong remarks" on his Weibo account on Mao Zedong, the founder of modern China.

The deputy director of the Shijiazhuang Bureau of Culture, Zuo Chunhe, was removed from his position on Monday after he called Mao a "devil" and referred the yearly commemoration of the founder's birthday as "the world's largest cult activity."

The post also critiqued China's plans on inhibiting Western culture in the Chinese society.

"Zuo has been sacked for posting wrong remarks on his Weibo account and also serious violations of political discipline," a statement by the Bureau of Television, Radio Press, and Publication said as noted by The Global Times.

It further revealed that Zuo had been given a stern warning by the administration and told to reflect on his mistakes. His Weibo account was soon afterward deleted.

However, the effects of his post were still gruesome as screenshots of the post had already spread across the Internet.

Efforts to get in touch with Zuo for comments over the post and also the recent events were ineffective, according to Reuters.

Earlier this month, a similar situation transpired at Luohe Television where producer Liu Yong was suspended from his position for giving a "wrongful speech that violates political discipline and morals," according to a report by the South China morning post.

Liu was suspended after he agreed with critics over controversies that had begun around Mao's birthday on Dec. 26. He later issued out an apology, saying he was sorry for "having hurt the feelings of the public."
