It is a major update for the first generation Nvidia Shield models. Once rolled out, the older Shield model will have practically the same features as the newly released models. Some analysts even consider the first generation Shield model to be far more superior to its smaller successor, because it supports microSD card, according to Slash Gear.

Aside from the Android Nougat upgrade, the upcoming Shield update will also include several features that will improve gaming experience, including support for Amazon Video and 4K HDR library. The update will also include GameStream with 4K HDR streaming support and the option to use GeForce GTX 1080 for GeForce Now. The update will ditch the old Shield Hub portal in favor of the new Nvidia Games app, according to Engadget.

One anticipated update that did not make it to the list is the Google Home integration, although there are rumors claiming that Nvidia is working on it with a plan to release at a much later date.

A handful of new apps, including NFL, Twitter, Vimeo, and Comedy Central, will be added to the Nvidia Shield as part of the integration.
