Bayern Munich's midfielder Arjen Robben has sharply criticized young football players moving to China for the greed of money, claiming that their lure for paychecks will eventually destroy their career.

The Netherland international claimed that he too was offered big money by Chinese Super League (CSL) clubs but rejected them for extending his stay at the German club until next year. He apparently signed the contract extension only a few days back.

"I do not understand players going to China at the age of 27 or 28. Those guys are at the peak of their career. That is a waste really. You only get one career. I sort of understand players who are already in their 30s."

Robben's scathing attack on younger player seemed to be aimed against the 25-year-old Brazilin international "Oscar," who inked a highly lucrative deal with Chinese club Shanghai SIPG last year. The deal made him one of the costliest players in the soccer world.

Robben quipped that what is currently happening in China is "money madness" as he claimed that money on the offer is so big that players have to at least consider it.

"They are offering maybe four, five or six times the amounts you get at a big club. But money has never driven me. That is why I have had such a great career. It is about football for me," he said.

The CSL club's insane spending at the transfer market has triggered a heated debate in the soccer world, with managers across the club debating whether the Chinese money is healthy for the football world.

The Chinese government has itself raised a red flag over CSL club's big spending, with the government announcing last week that it would put a curb on Chinese club's spending in the transfer market. Earlier this week, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) also imposed fresh cap on number of foreign players allowed to play per match.

Apart from Oscar, Chinese clubs have so far managed to snatch John Mikel Obi and Carlos Tevez during the ongoing January transfer market. Meanwhile, Chelsea's striker Diego Costa seems to be the latest high profile target of CSL clubs, with reports suggesting that Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian has made a confirmed bid to sign the Spanish international.
