Chinese President Xi Jinping Visits Sports Venues to Invigorate Plans for 2022 Winter Olympics

Chinese President Xi Jinping encouraged event's organizers on Monday to host an exceptional Winter Olympics in 2022 through thoughtful planning and proper use of resources.

Xi made the remarks during his official visit to Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, to listen to a briefing on preparatory work and inspect proposed venue areas around Chongli County. Zhangjiakou is Beijing's co-host city for the highly anticipated 2022 Games,

According to China Daily, the powerful Chinese leader stressed that the organizing committee and agencies involved should approach the preparation for the upcoming event's based on scientific planning in venue design, construction, and resource allocation to host a green, open-minded, and corruption-free Olympics in a shared manner.

The Beijing 2022 organizing committee, which was created in December 2015, has called up a team of more than 170 staff members across nine departments and two operational centers. Based on its work plan, the preparatory work will be sped up in 2017.

The construction of Olympic facilities will begin this year, including the building of venues for skiing, biathlon, ski jumping, and cross-country skiing. The renovation of the proposed venue for alpine skiing in Hebei Province, the Yunding Ski Field, is also set to begin this year.

Beijing 2022, is an international multi-sporting event that will be held in the capital city of China and towns in neighboring Province of Hebei from February 4-20, 2022. It will be the third successive Olympic Games held in East Asia, following Pyeongchang 2018 in South Korea and Tokyo 2020 in Japan.

Having previously hosted the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, Beijing will become the first city in the world to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics. It will also become the largest city ever to host the Winter Olympics, a distinction currently held by Vancouver, which hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics.
