"The Chinese club seems to be very interested, but I don't think it'll be easy to take him away from Toronto," said D'Amico. "We received an important offer from China and we'll talk to Toronto to decide, along with Sebastian, what to do."

There are no exact amounts mentioned yet, according to the report, but it was described as "huge" and "important" by several sources.

However, ESPN indicated that a Toronto FC spokesperson has denied the reports that the club received an offer from any Chinese Super League squads. It was also confirmed that no potential deals were submitted to the MLS league office, which facilitates all international transfers in the American league.

Giovinco, who is heading into his third year with the Reds, expressed happiness about his current status in Toronto. The Italy international the MLS MVP and Golden Boot awards in 2015 and has led Toronto to the 2016 MLS Cup where they lost to the Seattle Sounders, 5-4, on penalties.

"When I was back in Italy my friends ask me about MLS," said Giovinco. "I say I am happy, I like it here." Also known as the Atomic Ant because of his diminutive 5-foot-4 frame, he had scored 45 goals in a total of 72 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in his so far two-season stay in Toronto.

The MLS club acquired Giovinco in January of 2015 from Italian top-flight champions Juventus and signed him to a five-year, $35 million deal, which made him the current highest-paid player in the MLS, jumping ahead of Orlando City SC midfielder Kaka. His contract is guaranteed until the 2019 season.
