The Boston Celtics are targeting Orlando Magic center Nikola Vucevic in an attempt to add depth to their deflated frontcourt.

Boston's frontline lineup has gotten thinner after Al Horford suffered a groin injury last week. He has missed two-straight games so far, both wins for head coach Brad Stevens' boys, but it is becoming evident that the Celtics need another wide body in the lane to position themselves in a higher seed come playoff time.

According to Fansided, Boston recently approached Orlando about Vucevic, who at 26 years old is considered as one of the most talented and experienced young centers in the league right now.

The Switzerland-born Montenegrin is in his sixth year in the NBA and fifth with the Magic as he spent his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team that drafted him 16th overall in 2011.

He has averaged close to 20 points per game in the past two seasons and almost 10 rebounds in his career so far. This year, his averages dropped to 14.0 points and 9.7 boards as his playing time also decreased to 28.1 from more than 34 minutes per game in 2014-2015 after big men Serge Ibaka, and Bismack Biyombo joined the team last summer.

Celtics president Danny Ainge is said to be searching for a big man to help the team in two areas of need right now, inside scoring and rebounding, and Vucevic seemed to be the ideal fit for the club at the moment.

SB Nation reported that Orlando could be interested in getting Marcus Smart or Terry Rozier in a package for Vucevic "to add some toughness to the (Magic) roster," but Ainge is said to be hesitant to trade any of the two players at this time.

Another hindrance to a Vucevic deal is his salary, which is an average of $13.2 million per year. Vucevic is in the second year of his four-year, $53 million deal with the Magic and is owed $25 million for the next two years.

With Vucevic on the cap, the Celtics will have a hard time "attracting another max contract or re-signing Kelly Olynyk" to an extension. Also, his contract will still be active when the deals of Smart, Avery Bradley, and Isaiah Thomas are set to expire.
