Indonesia's chief of police has made a surprising claim that he knew what really happened with the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

General Sutarman was identified in a report from Indonesian magazine Tempo making such claims that not only surprised the Indonesian government but more so the Malaysian authorities.

The report went on saying the police chief gave the information to Lion Air officials along with high ranking authorities. The report said Sutarman did not elaborate what information has been revealed.

The UK Mirror reported Sutarman met with Lion Air officials on Friday in Jakarta and discussed the matter. Sutarman allegedly said he was able to speak with retired Malaysian police chief Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar. He also implied that Malaysian officials knew what really happened to the missing flight and yet chose to not speak about it.

Meanwhile, Malaysian police inspector general Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said he was shocked by such claims made by Sutarman, and is scheduling a meeting with the Indonesian police chief regarding such statements. Khalid Abu Bakar said Malaysian authorities have no further information regarding the mysterious disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

The latest development in the search for the missing flight was 58 solid objects found in the Indian Ocean. However, it has not been confirmed if indeed they came from flight MH370. Malaysian transport minister Liow Tiong Lai said authorities would have to confirm the origin of these objects before making a conclusion.

Meanwhile, the embassy of Indonesia in Malaysia did not confirm the news regarding Sutarman’s statement. The diplomatic organ of Indonesia also vowed to call on the reporter who wrote the news for clarification, said Malaysia-based The Star Online.

On March 8, Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 went missing a few hours after departing Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Beijing with 239 people on board. A new round of search operations would be held next month.
