Nokia has announced its deal with China's Xiaomi, where it will supply state-of-the-art fiber optic network to link seven data centers in the Beijing region.

The latest deal with Nokia was announced during the pre-Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona, Spain over the weekend. The financial details about Nokia’s Xiaomi deal were not disclosed.

The Finland-based tech company will provide technology that will help Xiaomi overcome its fast-growing traffic demands. The technology will diminish the blockage of Xiaomi’s data transport network, bringing higher-speed and lower latency Internet services to its customers.

Xiaomi will benefit from Nokia’s data center interconnect (DCI) solution that is based on the company's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), which is managed by the Network Services Platform. To define 1830 PSS, it is a high-performance Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) platform that provides capacity, security, and control that are needed for enterprise data center networks.

“As large enterprises in China and around the world look to take advantage of the benefits of private cloud, Nokia's data center interconnect solution offers an ideal way of bringing together geographically distributed assets to form a single, high-performance cloud. This initiative is enabling Xiaomi to maximize network capacity, address fast-growing traffic demands and enjoy the flexibility of the cloud with the security, reliability, and performance of a private network,” said Drazen Lukic, head of ChinaIP and Optical Networks Business Group at Nokia.

Moreover, Nokia has also signed a deal with Portugal; where it will offer to provide a communications network to power the country’s national railways infrastructure operator.
