The foreigners who made headlines after setting up a table complete with plates, utensils, and wine glasses in a Metro Line 11 train in Shanghai have issued apologies to the authorities. They were bashed for inappropriate manners by Chinese netizens.

Police officers and train operators summoned the foreign nationals at the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group's office. Their names and nationalities were not announced.

It was revealed that six foreigners were involved in the stunt, but only four of them could come to the train operator's office as the other two were on a business trip.

The foreigners were not punished. According to police, "the table was small, not as big as it looked in the photo (initially published on the Internet), and there were not many people in the carriage." They would've received punishment if the table blocked movement or injured other passengers, which it did not.

Eating and drinking inside Metro trains in major Chinese cities are not legally and explicitly prohibited, but they are discouraged.
