Xbox One's launch in China has been delayed to an unspecified date later this year.

Microsoft announced over the weekend it had moved the launch date from the original September 23 without giving a new, exact date for the release.

The company said that despite its pretty steady progress in developing an Xbox One for China, it needs more time to offer the best gaming console for Chinese fans.

"At Xbox, we pride ourselves on delivering first-rate gaming and entertainment experiences, and to allow us to deliver on that promise, we need to reschedule the launch of Xbox One," Microsoft said in a statement.

Microsoft doesn't have a specific date yet but it hopes to launch Xbox One in China before the year ends.

The company, however, will still push through with the September 23 launch event in Shanghai. Consumers that preorder the Xbox One will be the first ones to get the console and other unspecified added bonuses.

Previously, Microsoft said it'll have a "rich lineup" of Xbox One games for sale in China. This lineup ranges from free-to-play offerings to blockbusters like Kinect Sports Rivals and Forza Motorsport 5: Racing Game of the Year. Chinese developers like Snail Games and Tencent are also included in the games.

The prices for the games will range from US$16 to US$40.

Xbox One costs US$600 minus the Kinect motion detection system. With Kinect, the system costs US$700.
