Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn To Work Together In ‘True Detective’ Second Season

It's official. Actors Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn are on board to star in the second season of HBO's crime drama series "True Detective."

Following months of speculation over its cast, HBO announced on Tuesday that Farrell and Vaughn would be portraying lead characters in the next installment of the anthology series.

Farrell has been cast in the role of Ray Velcoro, a detective torn between the police department and his allegiance to a mobster who owns him.

The 44-year-old Vaughn, on the other hand, will play as Frank Semyon, a criminal in danger of losing his empire after his business partner is murdered.

According to HBO, the second season, which will again be written by series creator Nic Pizzolato, will veer off completely from the events of the first season.

It said the upcoming season would be about "three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."

The network added that director Justin Lin, known for his work in the "The Fast and The Furious" franchise, would helm the first two episodes of the season.

On Saturday, Farrell confirmed that he would be portraying a lead role in the HBO's anthology series.

"I'm doing the second series. I'm so excited," the 38-year-old actor said in an interview with an Irish newspaper.

The "Phone Booth" star noted that he is also thrilled that filming would take place around Los Angeles, California.

"I know very little about it, but we're shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids," said Farrell, who has two sons.

The actor said production on the eight-episode run will begin in a matter of months and "will take around four or five months to shoot."

Farrell was reportedly in talks for the role since July.

The first season of "True Detective" garnered widespread praise for its storyline and the performances of its two lead actors, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Both actors, as police detectives looking into a series of abductions and odd murders, were nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmy Awards this year.

On the other hand, first season director, Cary Joji Fukunaga, bagged the Outstanding Director Award at the Emmys held last month.

Earlier, A-list actors Brad Pitt and Christian Bale were rumored as joining the HBO show this series.

However, the two denied they would be involved.

Rumors about actresses Taylor Kitsch, Elizabeth Moss, and Rachel McAdams, joining the cast have also been going around for a while, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

"True Detective" is set to return for its second season next year.
