United States President Barack Obama on Tuesday warned against the Islamic militants who plotted an attack on American soil. He said it will not be tolerated in an address on the airstrikes launched against the ISIL, the militant group also known as Daesh, early Tuesday.

"Once again, it must be clear to anyone who would plot against America and try to do Americans harm that we will not tolerate safe havens for terrorists who threaten our people," Obama said.

American officials said they discovered plots against the U.S. and Western targets. Behind the plots was another terrorist group, Khorasan, which Obama linked to al Qaeda.

The U.S. intelligence discovered the plots in last week, according to an intelligence source who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity.

The attack was planned with an explosive contained in a non-metallic device such as a toothpaste tube. The source also identified clothes coated with explosive material. However, the source did not identify any particular target in the plot.

The plot included concealed bombs on aircrafts, a U.S. official said

Thus, some of the airstrikes were directed at the Khorasan group. According to reports, the U.S. carried them out on its own.

Moreover, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security warned law enforcement agencies to be vigilant for possible ISIS counterattacks, a State Department official said.

The agencies must look for changes in behavior and appearance among their suspects, the official said.

Meanwhile, Pentagon representative Navy Rear Admiral John Kirby said the airstrikes were only the beginning, although he did not talk about their future operations.

Nations that joined the airstrikes were United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, with Qatar playing a supporting role, a military official said.

With this, Obama affirmed the world of the broad coalition it earlier planned.

"The strength of this coalition makes it clear to the world that this is not America's fight alone," Obama said.

Obama met with the five Arab nations' officials in the coalition and they all strongly agreed that their anti-Daesh campaign was long-term, a U.S. official said.
