A monster truck that spun out of control reportedly killed three people and injured 18 in a stunt show held in Haaksbergen, a town located at the eastern part of Netherlands, on Sunday.

Local authorities disclosed that the accident took place following the attempt of the driver of the 1,500 horsepower truck, which had tractor-sized wheels, to drive his vehicle over a row of cars. Despite accomplishing the stunt, however, he allegedly failed to step on the brake.

The driver subsequently lost control of the monster truck, which caused the vehicle to head towards the group of spectators present to witness the stunt.  A report from the local media revealed that the town's mayor announced the death of at least three people who attended the show. Among these victims were two children.

"A so-called monster truck drove into a crowd of spectators. A terrible accident with two dead victims, 18 wounded (including) six severely wounded," stated the authorities of the town as posted in the website haaksbergen.nl.

A Facebook user posted the video of the tragic incident in the social networking site. As featured in the footage, the engine of the monster truck was heard roaring hard prior to jumping over the row of cars. With the engine revved up to its limit, the 1,500 horsepower vehicle then accelerated and leaped over six cars lined up before it.

The cheers of the crowd, however, were immediately broken by screams of terror and confusion as the massive truck unexpectedly headed towards the group of onlookers surrounding the square. The victims had no other protection from the out of control monster truck except for the flimsy metal barriers that was used by the organizers to separate the crowd from the main event area.

To date, the investigating officers have yet to release the names of those who passed due to the incident. Nonetheless, the police officers handling the case announced via Twitter that the driver of the monster truck had already been arrested.
