An alleged memo to retail outlets in China suggests "prototype" iPhone 6 models have been stocked in authorized stores starting Tuesday, said Chinese news website Techweb.

The same memo also pointed to employee training and product readiness to be carried out at the same time.

The latest iPhones 6 models were released worldwide last week in major markets, but not in China since the country requires smartphones and other similar devices pass regulatory approval before being given the go signal.

According to the government's Xinhua news agency, Apple has just received authorization for the iPhone 6 models to access the nation's domestic frequencies.

Details in a store preparation timeline outlined in an employee training course lead to news the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available to the Chinese public on Oct. 10, according to AppleInsider.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology must also give the new handsets its consent for network access before retailers start offering the devices. Miao Wei, the head of MIIT, reportedly told Chinese Internet Portal Tencent last week that the new iPhone is "in final stages of review for approval, with results due shortly."

The release of the iPhones in China may prove the final blow against smugglers and scalpers that wish to earn a quick buck off the smartphones.

Prices of smuggled iPhone 6s have already dropped in price, from the initial launch date's price ranging from US$1,950 to US$2,440 to the current US$1,060 to US$1,430, The New York Times reported on Monday.

Many consumers may just be waiting for the legitimate launch of the iPhones in China, and its lower price, according to CNET's Don Reisinger. It's also possible that Apple's rivals, including Beijing-based Xiaomi, may already be satisfying the needs of consumers in China.
