Los Angeles Lakers point guard Jeremy Lin has never failed impressing his new teammates and coaching staffs in training camp. Apparently, two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash is one of the people who have high hopes for the Asian-American star this coming season.

Nash, who is perhaps playing in his final NBA season, admired Lin’s ability to slice through defense and create opportunities for the team to score either from his kick-out passes or draw some fouls.

“He gets to the basket. He can really get in there at the rim causes problems, create fouls,” Nash told reporters after Friday’s scrimmages at the Lakers training facility in El Segundo, California.

Lin has been leading the Lakers’ second-unit against the projected starters for next season consists of Nash, Kobe Bryant, Wesley Johnson, Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill. With Nash struggling to stay healthy for the past two seasons, Lin might end up starting for the purple-and-gold at some point this season.

Lakers head coach Byron Scott also liked the way Lin pushes the hard in fast-break situations and play all-out defense on the other end of the floor, saying the Asian-American star has not disappointed him.

"I like him a lot. I really do," Scott said on Wednesday. "On defense he really knows where to be. He's gritty, just like I knew he would be.

"He's going to guard you to the best of his ability, and he never gives up on a play. Offensively he runs the team. He gets to the basket. I love the way he pushes the ball in the open floor."

Lin also felt the team is already picking up Scott’s defensive philosophy. He added that this year’s training camp has been hardest he ever had since he first played in the NBA, because the rough strength and conditioning drill of the new coaching staff.

"The running comes with the territory, it's kind of what you have to do at the beginning," Lin said. "After a while, we'll get into more playing and less running, after we establish our defensive principles."

"We're putting in more sets every single day, trying to figure out what works, what doesn't work," Lin said. "It's fun to get back out there."
