Google Voice MMS Now Supported By Almost 100 Carriers

Google Voice users can now rejoice as the Google app now supports multimedia message service (MMS) for almost a hundred carriers in North America.

The Google Voice app was released way back in March 2009. Since then, the app was being used not only for calls, but also for short messaging services (SMS) and voicemails. However, one minor bug before the latest update is that users of the Google Voice app can't send and receive MMS messages. There wasn't even an error message that shows whenever a user sends an MMS, it would just exits without notification.

An announcement in a Google+ post from Alex Wiesen of Google declared that the MMS function is now being supported by several North American carriers; AT&T, Bell Canada, Rogers, and T-Mobile are just among the reported carriers that now support Google Voice app's MMS message function.

However, one popular carrier, Verizon Wireless, still doesn't support the MMS feature on the Google Voice app. Wiesen urged the unsupported carriers to help out for a better and diverse operability in messaging.

Even with the announced support and fix for the MMS service, some users are still having problems in using the said service. Other users reported that received MMS messages that should contain pictures only displays text links. Some users don't receive MMS messages at all, even from the person that they sent an MMS message to.

Another problem for the Google Voice app, amidst the big news on additional support, is that group MMS still does not work properly. Users reported that instead of one whole message from groups, they would receive individual messages.
