Ex-Bioshock Developers Reveal The Black Glove on Kickstarter

The Black Glove

When Irrational Games launched Bioshock Infinite, many called it a new era of storytelling and world-building, with a direct emphasis on the submersive world, and less of the work put into gunfights and combat effectiveness with different upgrades.

This caused a rift in what people perceive as a "good game", does a game need to be challenging? Does it need to have excellent combat or mechanics? Does it really need to have a failure state, or can it not be a visual exploration of a new world?

It feels like the new developers at Day For Night Games, the new studio developing The Black Glove, want to take this "visual exploration" style game to the next level. The Black Glove will involve three main rooms: the artist Marisol, the filmmaker Avery Arnault and the musical act Many Embers.

The aim of the game is to radically change each of the themes the three rooms, in order to make the creator's successful. The player does this by completing arcade "feats", basically small mini-games in an arcade machine, in order to gain The Black Glove.

It seems like an awfully simple game, but the focus point is on replayability and the idea of creating different types of scenarios for the three rooms. This puts big emphasis on the visual and audio representation, both need to be spot on to make this an enjoyable experience.

Bioshock had moments of greatness with their character and visual design. We think of characters like Andrew Ryan, Frank Fontaine, Dr. Suchong, Sofia Lamb, Elizabeth, Zachary Comstock and places like the opening scene of Infinite or the original Bioshock.

If Day For Night Games is capable of pulling off the same writing and visual art that Bioshock was famous for, it might be worth picking it up on Kickstarter for $20. The final game should be available by October 2015, according to the team.
