A firm from Slovakia is looking to bring flying cars from science fiction to science fact with the AeroMobil.

Stephen Klein is a car designer that has also tried his hand in building a flying car. He said his motivation for designing the flying car is that travelling over long distances in a plane often takes a long amount of time, mostly spent waiting.

He finally built a working model of the flying car he called the AeroMobil.

The AeroMobil can fly an impressive 430 miles on a single tank of petrol filled up at any regular gas station.

According to a report made by techodrom, it's "a 'flying car' that perfectly makes use of existing infrastructure created for automobiles and planes, and opens doors to real door-to-door travel."

It's primarily an automobile, only six feet long. In a matter of seconds though, wings unfurl, bringing them to 16 feet.

When the wings are not spread out, the vehicle can be driven on the road. It even fits in normal parking spaces.

As a car, it can go from 0 to 100 miles per hour (mph). As an aircraft, however, it's takeoff speed is 90 mph, with a minimum of 40mph and a top speed of 124 mph.

Whether a car or an airplane, the maximum capacity for the AeroMobil is two people.

Tatiana Veber, a spokesperson for AeroMobil, said they have been working on this vehicle since 1990. She goes on to say that its engine, the Rotax 912 ULS, was built to be regularly fuelled at gas stations.

Its design still isn't perfect as the wings fold inside the car and reside behind the driver or pilot.

The AeroMobil is set to be presented to the world at the Pioneers Festival in Austria on October 29.
