Tech news blog Bright Side of News said that pre-orders of the HTC-built Nexus 9 would begin Wednesday, with the device to be released on Nov. 3.

The Nexus 9 would include Nvidia's Tegra K1 chip and would retail for $399, according to anonymous sources.

On the other hand, Focus Taiwan, a Taiwan-based news channel, reported Wednesday that HTC executive Jack Tong said in a press briefing in New York that the device is anticipated to be sold by the end of the year in Taiwan.

Apart from Focus Taiwan's report, no other tech news websites have additional information as they all used the channel as an original source.

Jeff Gordon, an HTC spokesman said Friday that, the story from Focus Taiwan is "incorrect," adding that while Tong said HTC is set to make a comeback in the tablet computer market after being absent for years, he "never stated a product name or any other details."

"We believe the original journalist is conjecturing based on rumors floating around the Internet, and HTC doesn't comment on rumors or speculation," Gordon said, referring to the Bright Side of News report, as well.

For months, rumors have been circulating that HTC, a mobile phone manufacturer based in Taiwan, and Google have partnered to build a new Nexus tablet.

For Google, the Nexus 9 rumors arose at the same time as stories about the Internet giant is toiling away on a novel smartphone with a larger screen as well.

Pictures of the upcoming Nexus 9 was posted by @upleaks, a new but short lived mobile-image-leaking account on Twitter, earlier in the month.

In the previous month however, a report points out that the device would be unveiled Thursday, alongside an official release of Android L, Google's latest version of its mobile operating system.
