In an interview with Collider, Keanu Reeves responded to an online question who said that he should don the Eye of Agamotto. 

The actor said that the last thing he wants is to be strapped to a film that's not up a certain level. However, he said, "I like the idea. I mean I go and see these kinds of films, I have nothing against superhero movies, I like them. I grew up with comic books and graphic novels."

Also, it's been known that Reeves is very apprehensive about signing long term movie contracts, something that Marvel is notoriously famous for. 

He also mentioned that he had never read a Doctor Strange comic book, but he would like to immerse himself in them to familiarize himself with the popular Marvel character. So, we are taking that as maybe he is interested, but it's also possible that he really isn't.

If Reeves ends up accepting the role, this will not be his first spin as a comic book character. He played Constanine in the 2005 film of the same name which unfortunately met with a very lukewarm response.

The release date for the Doctor Strange has not yet been announced, but production is currently in its development stage, with Scott Derrickson rumored to be directing the film.

Keanu was last seen in the film, 47 Ronin and will be in a movie with William Dafoe entitled 'John Wick' wherein  he plays a retired hit man who comes out of retirement, to track down the gangsters who took everything from him.
