Apple Inc. (AAPL) has sold 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units in its opening weekend, but the company might be on track to sell more units in China before sales even start. A report from Tencent Holdings, who take both carrier and JD.com sales into account, claim the two phones have surpassed 20 million units.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus took in 1 million pre-orders in six hours, followed by 2 million pre-orders in one day. The numbers have continued at a staggering pace, showing the anticipation in China for the new Apple smartphone.

Jingdong Mall (JD.com) has taken 4.6 million iPhone 6 units and 4.8 million iPhone 6 Plus units. The other 10 million sales came from the three major carriers, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom. JD.com were able to sell the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus as a third party retailer, while others like Alibaba's Tmall were not allowed to take pre-orders.

Apple's worldwide sales of the iPhone 6 could be more than 20 million, according to various reports. The iPhone 6 Plus has only sold three to five million. This could change with the Chinese launch, if the numbers stay fifty-fifty.

This is definitely the biggest smartphone launch in the history of mobile. Apple is on track to sell over 80 million units before 2014 is over, and could sell another 100 million by the time the iPhone 6S arrives.

Apple says that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in a total of 69 countries by the end of the month, and in more than 115 countries by the end of the year, making it the fastest iPhone rollout ever.
