A Chinese woman recently dumped by her boyfriend decided to seek refuge in a KFC branch and eat chicken wings for a week.

After the heartbreak inflicted by her breakup with her ex-boyfriend, 26-year-old Tan Shen thought of eating fried food to help ease the pain of the separation. This led her to drop by a KFC branch close to the train station near her house. What was initially a plan to simply purchase some comfort food, however, turned to a week-long reflection on her life.

According to Tan, her decision to stay in the restaurant for an entire week had been rooted in her realization that she "needed time to think".

"I was walking around feeling miserable and decided to stop off at the KFC at the train station. I hadn't planned on staying there long, I just wanted some chicken wings. But once I got in there and started eating I decided I needed time to think," shared the 26-year-old resident of Chengdu.

"I didn't want to go back to my apartment because it was full of memories of him. So I stayed," she added.

To ensure that her thinking time would go on uninterrupted, Tan even called her office and declared she was sick.

After several days, however, KFC employees started to get worried over her condition.

"We work in shifts here and the restaurant is open 24 hours a day, so we get a lot of people coming through. At first no one really noticed her. But after a few days I began thinking she looked really familiar. Then I realised we had been serving her for the past three days and that she hadn't actually left," shared Jiang Li Lung, a 22-year-old KFC employee.

"When we asked her if she was ok, she said she was and just needed time to think. And then asked for another box of chicken wings with extra-large fries," he added.

Despite their initial anxiety over her possible problems, the employees agreed that Tan meant no harm. Hence, they found no reason to ask her to leave.

Tan decided to leave the restaurant when local media began interviewing her and writing about her story.

As of the latest report on her status, Tan left the area and boarded a train to her parent's house in Quingdao City. The intrusion on her "thinking time" by the local media, as well as the fact that was already "getting sick of the taste of chicken", helped her reach that decision.
