If you are planning to visit China this year or in the near future, here are the top five places you shouldn't miss:

1. Forbidden City. The city has been an exclusive home to emperors and advisors for over 500 years. However, when it first opened to the public, locals and tourists alike have been visiting the city. It has also become one of China's top tourist destinations.

2. Hanging Temple. Tourists will need to travel four hours from Beijing to marvel at this spectacular sight. The temple is among the most beautiful in China, but receives fewer visits. The hanging temple is mixed with Confucian, Taoist and Buddhist influences and hangs above 100 feet. The temple buildings are connected by wooden pathways that offer breathtaking views.

3. Terracotta Army. Travelers are confronted with a magnificent view of an entire army which was sculpted with individual uniforms. The life-size army comes with a visual scale ideal for those who are into photography.

4. Potala Palace. Those who have a keen eye for Tibetan architecture will truly be amazed with this palace. The Potala Palace was also the Dalai Lama's previous home. The palace can only accommodate a number of visitors in a day. If you are planning to drop by, be sure to make prior arrangements.

5. Great Wall of China. A visit to China would not be complete if you don't visit the country's iconic landmark. The Great Wall is easily accessible from Beijing and some tourists even hire informal guides to take them around this attraction.
