Amazon (AMZN) has revealed its answer to the Chromecast - the best selling electronic device on Amazon.com. The new device is part of the 'Fire TV' range, called the Fire TV Stick.

It may not roll off the tongue the same way Chromecast does, but Amazon is hoping that with a few improvements on the Fire TV Stick, they can become the best seller in the electronic devices category.

Internally, the Fire TV Stick offers 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, dual-band WiFi and a dual-core processor. Amazon will ship the Fire TV Stick with a remote, allowing the user to move around the interface, without downloading an app for mobile.

This remote will not be the same as the one on the Fire TV - it will come without the speech input. Amazon is looking to cut costs wherever possible, but still offer a better TV dongle than Google.

Users will be able to download all of the TV apps, including YouTube, Hulu Plus, Pandora, ESPN and Prime Instant Video. There has not yet been confirmation on when, or if, Netflix will be added, which is one of the more compelling reasons to buy a streaming dongle.

There is also no confirmation on whether Amazon will install a tab-cast feature, like on the Chromecast. This is one of the major benefits of the Chromecast, being able to cast directly from the browser and not have to download an app and work on their interface.

Even if the Fire TV Stick has more RAM and a remote, it is unlikely to break through the strong customer shell Google has built with the Chromecast - especially if it cannot offer the same browser functionality Google offers on Chrome.

The Fire TV Stick is available for $39.99 or $19.99 if you are a Prime subscriber. The remote with voice commands costs and extra $29.99. If Amazon can fit all of the Fire TV into a smaller and cheaper package, it might work for a lot of people, but it lacks the ability to cast Chrome tabs right now.
