Benedict Cumberbatch, one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors, has just gotten engaged to theater director girlfriend Sophie Hunter in reportedly the most traditional way. The 38-year-old actor revealed the engagement news in UK's The Times newspaper Wednesday.

"The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katherine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London," read an announcement in UK's The Times newspaper.

The announcement was headlined "Mr B.T. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter.

"I am delighted to confirm this morning's announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are engaged," a rep of the "Sherlock" actor said in a statement to the Daily News.

While the couple is rejoicing, the so-called "Cumberbitches," Cumberbatch's die-hard fans, may not be too happy about the news, especially as Hunter is now set to accompany Benedict on his press tour for his upcoming film "The Imitation Game." However, it appears the "Cumberbitches," as well as the whole world, will be nothing short of impressed by Hunter.

TIME could only describe Cumberbatch's fiancée as "impressive," passing whatever standards any Cumberbatch fan has set for what a future Mrs. "Sherlock" should be.

Cumberbatch and the 36-year-old theatre director reportedly met on the set of the film "Burlesque Fairytales" in 2009according to People magazine. The couple's last public event before they got engaged was at the French Open this past June.

Apart from being an actress, Hunter also had a small role in 2004's "Vanity Fair."

Hunter is a graduate of the University of Oxford and she is an award-winning theater director. After graduating with a degree in modern languages from the university, she studied at the Jacques Lecoq school of theater in Paris.

In 2007, she was awarded the Samuel Beckett award for having written and directed her own play named "The Terrific Electric." Operas she directed include Mozart's "The Magic Flute" and Benjamin Britten's "The Rape of Lucretia." She's also has her own French language album, reports TIME.

Smart, beautiful and undoubtedly talented, Hunter appears to be up to par with Cumberbatch's gifts as a human being.

It is a hope though that Cumberbatch isn't anything like his character on "Sherlock" when it comes to marriage.

There is still no official date for the wedding of Cumberbatch and Hunter. The British actor previously dated screenwriter Olivia Poulet for nearly ten years. The couple called the relationship off in 2010.
