Robin Williams did not have any traces of illegal drugs or alcohol in his system when he committed suicide on Aug. 11, according to a final autopsy report released Friday.

Williams was found dead in his North California home and the Marin County Sheriff's Office ruled that the actor died of asphyxia due to hanging.

After his death, wife Susan Schneider said Williams had been suffering from depression that bordered on paranoia for which he took certain medications.

A toxicology test on the star's body did find traces of medication that were consistent with prescribed dosages for therapeutic purposes.

These prescription drugs included two anti-depressants and two caffeine compounds, which were needed to keep him physically active, the coroner's final report said.

The 63-year old Oscar-winning legend was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2013 and had developed symptoms such as a left arm tremor and a slowing of movement in the affected limb.

Williams checked into a retreat facility in Minnesota in late June but not for treatment of drug or alcohol abuse, his wife told investigators. He was merely there to rejuvenate the principles of his 12-step program and apply them to areas of life he was having trouble with, the report said.

The report added that Williams and his wife had been sleeping in separate bedrooms since he was having trouble sleeping.

Schneider had admitted noticing a growing sense of paranoia in Williams, a symptom of which manifested on the night before his death when he tried to "save" a watch collection by putting them in a sock and driving with them over to an unidentified person's house.

But Williams never spoke of suicidal thoughts. Analysis done on his iPhone, iPad and laptop did not yield any clues that he had been thinking about committing suicide.

The Mork and Mindy star was last seen alive by his wife on 10 August. When she woke on Aug. 11, she assumed he was sleeping, went out to run errands, and returned a few hours later to find Williams dead, his body fully dressed in black T-shirt and jeans.

Williams' remains were cremated the day after he died and his ashes were scattered over the San Francisco Bay.
