Usually retired NBA players look to become a coach or maybe take a general manager position in a team's front office, but Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Garnett reportedly has aspirations of owning the Minnesota Timberwolves when he retires from playing the game.

"I want to buy the Timberwolves. Put a group together and perhaps some day try to buy the team. That's what I want," the 38-year-old Garnett told Yahoo Sports after a 107-99 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night.

The news comes as no surprise when you consider the history between the Timberwolves and the 15-time All-Star. After being selected by the Timberwolves with the fifth pick in the 1995 NBA draft, Garnett went on to spend 12 years playing for Minnesota before being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2007.

While the Timberwolves weren't able to compete for a title, Garnett completely turned the franchise around carrying the team to eight consecutive playoff appearances. He had such a big impact on the team that Minnesota has yet to even clinch a playoff berth since his departure.

According to Forbes, the Timberwolves are estimated to be valued at $430 million. Garnett is one of the highest paid athletes in NBA history earning $327 million over his career including the $12 million he makes this season with the Nets. And that number doesn't include the millions worth in endorsements he's been accumulating over the years as well.

Garnett contributing a large chunk of the $430 million and putting together a group of investors to cover the rest of the cost it would take to own the team is certainly a possibility. Especially considering that current Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor is looking to add a partner with the option of buying him out. Even Nets' general manager Billy King seems to like the idea.

"He would be one of the best owners in the NBA because he understands what the players need and he understands what it takes to be successful in the NBA," King said.
