Intel Corporation said yesterday it had acquired PasswordBox, a Canadian-based provider of identity management services that lets users access all of their websites and apps on any device without having to type in passwords repeatedly.

Intel plans to incorporate PasswordBox into its Safe Identity organization. Safe Identity was established to strengthen security and ease access to digital information.

"Everyone can relate to password fatigue." said Chris Young, Intel Security Group's senior vice president and general manager. "The PasswordBox service has already brought relief to millions of consumers who now enjoy simple, instant login,"

"Intel Security and PasswordBox share the same goal of improving digital identity protection across all devices and platforms. We believe we have the technology, expertise and reach to bring simple, secure access to consumers worldwide," Young added.

UK-based consulting firm Deloitte, the world's largest professional services network by revenue, recently reported that more than 90 per cent of user passwords are vulnerable to hacking.

Global information services company Experian PLC said most users that have multiple online accounts usually use only five different passwords to log into all of their accounts. With PasswordBox, Intel Security plans to extinguish some of these issues.

Intel Security was established by Intel Corporation last January. It focuses on solving some of the biggest security challenges of today by integrating McAfee's expertise with its innovative technologies.

Intel Security said it intends to work closely with PasswordBox to benefit consumers in the digital world.
